Grey days? Fill your life with colour!

Morning all! It is Monday morning, before 8am, and I am on my way to the day job. Since Sophie's Room is still such a new venture for me, I am an administrator by day. On mornings like this, when I'm sitting on a train platform and the sky looks grey, the air is chill, and I'm still feeling a bit bleary-eyed, that I feel I would rather be pottering around a beautiful craft market, or wrapped up warmly taking a walk, or (and this may be my favourite option) sitting in the warm, with a cup of tea, sewing, or designing some new little creature for Sophie's Room.

So, what raises a smile on this grey day? I have to say, a quick flick through the pages of Folksy Favourites is an excellent tonic for the monochrome of Monday morning. And I am doing my best to contribute to it, with a brand new mini mobile! This one has been almost as long awaited as the Blue Birds mini mobile, but it is here at last, and I am actually really pleased with the result!

Heartfelt - Feeling romantic

Has anyone else noticed how terribly 'chic' the loveheart motif is lately? 



It is just about everywhere, just about all year round. It even appears, dressed in festive colours, in the guise of Christmas decorations! Now, I'm certainly not what you'd call the cutesy type. I was never one of those girls to dot their 'i's with hearts and, when my husband and I got married, we didn't immediately feel it was necessary to adorn our house with photos of us in heart-shaped frames.

However, I have recently found myself (quite by accident) on Pinterest, pinning one heart-themed craft project after another. So, I thought I'd give myself over to it and, yesterday, I put aside some time to curate a collection of some of my favourite romantically themed Folksy items. They can be found here, on my pinterest board Heartfelt.



The first image that I've included above, and at the top of this article, is a beautiful heart-shaped mirror designed by Paul Bullen, and is available for sale on his Folksy shop Free Range Designs. I simply love this design and I know many of you could easily think of a corner in your home that would be lifted by it.

Here is another of my real favourites from Folksy at the moment. These beautiful little ceramic hearts are only 5.5cm across but every bit as charming as any of the larger pieces I selected. These are made by Devon-based Shelly Lee and can be found, amongst a selection of other handmade ceramic pieces, at her Folksy shop By Shelly Lee (Ceramics).



There were so many other beautiful things by the wonderful crafting community at Folksy. I have included a small selection of some of the others below, but you can find plenty more on my Pinterest board.
